AzAAP White Paper: Recommendations for Childhood Obesity Prevention, Assessment and Treatment (August, 2011)
The AzAAP Obesity Committee created this white paper to assist pediatricians in providing quality care to their patients.  It also includes a payment proposal for health plans.  You can also read the executive summary here.

This document was created by AzAAP Obesity Committee and Pediatric Council volunteers to assist in coding appropriately for obesity assessment and treatment.


Healthy Lifestyle Screening Tool
Parents complete this screening tool in the waiting room to provide clinicians with information from which to base a conversation about nutrition.  After reviewing the responses, a clinician may want to proceed into the motivational interview.  This is intended to be a data-collection tool.

Prescription Pad
A prescription providers can give to patients emphasizing the 5-2-1-0 message.  Space is provided to write additional recommendations for healthy living.�
Prints 4 full color prescriptions per sheet.

CDC Growth Charts
In September, 2010 the CDC issued new guidance on the use of growth charts.  Clinicians should not calculate BMI percentile for chidlren under 24 months.  Instead, plot and assess weight for length utilizing the WHO growth charts for childxren 0-24 months. For children above 24 months, utilize the CDC growth charts and calculate BMI and BMI percentile.
